Mt TImothy

Known around the region as the “Cariboo’s Best Kept Secret, Mt. Timothy is a family-friendly ski hill that is renowned for it’s small crowds, low wait times and laid back atmosphere. The resort underwent a huge renovation before the 2019/2020 season opening, and it’s changes have been greatly appreciated by the local community.

Mt. Timothy boasts some impressive stats, with the summit elevation reaching 1660m (5,446′), meaning there’s some spectacular views once you make it to the top.The elevation at the base of the hill is around 1350m (4,429′). Another thing that separates Mt Timothy from other mountains is the snow. The light, fluffy snow that regularly falls on the mountain is a skiers or boarders dream. The locals refer to it as “Cariboo Champagne” powder!

The hill doesn’t just appeal to long-time local skiers, daily equipment rental is available for those who just want to give it a try. Lessons are also available on a first-come-first-served-basis. Mt. Timothy is open to the public from Thursday-Sunday during the winter season.

Trails and Runs

Mt. Timothy offers 35 runs in total, ranging from beginner slopes to double black diamond runs for it’s advanced visitors. There is also a bunny hill for first-timers, and with roughly 50% of the slopes are ranked at intermediate level, it makes the resort an excellent place for beginners to gradually improve their skills, and perhaps start a life-long obsession. To make your way up the hill, the resort offers one triple chair and a T-bar and promises very little wait times, if any.

Tickets and Passes

Whether you’re looking for a quick day pass or ready to invest into a season pass, Mt. Timothy offers very affordable options for all family members. Family passes are an excellent way to save money. Not only do you receive a hefty discount on the initial purchase price, it also provides you with 25-50% off, at over 20 other mountains. For a family of avid skiers, you can’t go wrong.

The Lodge and Other Amenities

It wouldn’t be a proper day on the hill without being able to curl up in the warmth with a mug of hot cocoa, to discuss the days thrills and spills. The lodge at Mt. Timothy was one of the major focal points during the renovations. New television screens have been installed throughout the lodge, complete with satellite tv channels and free wifi for all guests. The kitchen has also had an upgrade, so there’ll be no shortage of tasty meals after a day in the snow.

Other Activities

Tubing was introduced to Mt. Timothy for the 2019/2020 season and has been a welcome addition for many thrill seekers. The tubing course is found at the top of the magic carpet and provides a great alternative experience for families.

For those who prefer to stay on slightly more level footing, there are multiple snowshoe trails to experience at Mt. Timothy. The majority of these trails wind through the snow brushed forests surrounding the slopes, making it a very picturesque place to explore.

Mt. Timothy Recreation Resort is now officially a part of the Gold Rush Snowmobile Trail, meaning you can often see snowmobilers parking up at the lodge, in order to grab a warm meal before heading back to the mountains. There are a wide variety of snowmobile trails in the area, and Mt. Timothy makes an excellent rest stop for weary riders.

Mt. Timothy may not be the largest ski resort in BC, but it’s chock full of family charm and hospitality. Whatever your skill level or budget, when you visit the resort, you’ll be welcomed in as part of the family. Are you planning to check out Mt. Timothy this year or are you already a regular visitor?
